THE COMPENSATION LISTED IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE FULL PAY GRADE.
STARTING PAY FOR THIS ROLE IS STEP 1, $55,956 PER YEAR.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK Performs preventative maintenance tasks in the water plants and distribution system including the cleaning, lubrication, repair, and adjustment of pumps, motors, valves, meters, chemical feeders, filters, instruments, and other equipment.
Assists the maintenance personnel with regular preventive inspections and equipment maintenance.
Under the supervision of the Water Treatment Operator II operates all pumps, feeders, valves, instruments, controls and other equipment used in the pumpage, treatment and distribution of water.
Batches chemicals in accordance with operating requirements and procedures.
Records meter and gauge readings used in the different measuring devices recognizing significant fluctuations.
Assists the Water Operator II in the performance of routine and special chemical testing.
Responds to alarm conditions of plant and outlying system facilities.
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of plant facilities including janitorial duties, painting, snow shoveling, and other grounds maintenance.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for reading and preparing written or computer reports, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, and operation of motor vehicles or equipment; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Requires working knowledge of water treatment plant operations, methods and practices; working knowledge about tools, materials, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment; skill in the daily production of potable water; skill in the care and use of the tools and equipment required in plant operations and maintenance.

Experience:
Position requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires maintenance of an active telephone number.
Requires possession of a valid Illinois driver's license.
Requires ability to work an assigned shift in a 24-hour a day, seven day a week operation and to respond to emergency conditions.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
